Ministry Minutes

St. George Welcomes Father Ben Latran!

The news of Father Ben Latran's joining St. George marks a wonderful way to begin the summer! Father Ben officially joins us on June 3 and we will welcome him officially this Sunday, June 8 after the 10:30 Mass in the Lower Hall.

A Note From Father Ben

"I was born and brought up in Vietnam. In March 1989, I escaped Vietnam by boat and spent the next two years in two different refugee camps in Malaysia. In February 1991, I was accepted to come to the United States. However, before I arrived in Boston, I had to spend another seven months in a refugee camp in the Philippines to study English...

"My first home in America was in South Boston. One week after my arrival, I was able to continue my education at Cathedral High School in the South End. After graduating from Cathedral High, I continued my higher education at St. John's Seminary in Brighton. I graduated from St. John's Seminary College of Liberal Arts in 2000, and then went on to St. John's Seminary School of Theology...

"On May 21, 2005, I was ordained by Archbishop Cardinal Sean O'Malley at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, and was sent to serve the people of God at St. Brigid/Gate of Heaven Parishes in South Boston...

"I am very grateful to Archbishop Sean O'Malley for appointing me to serve the people of God at St. George Parish in Framingham...I know St. George is a great parish, and I am looking forward to being with you."

We are looking forward to it too, Father!

Volunteers Needed

Our parish ministries are led by active dedicated volunteers. To make sure that no one gets overloaded or burnt out, we are always looking for new parishioners to either get involved for the first time or try something new.

If you are interested in learning more about how easy it is to get involved in these two ministries, please contact Deacon Neil Lacey at nflacey@verizon.net or our Volunteer Coordinator Terry Stramowski at veritas0461@yahoo.com.

You can also visit our parish website's Ministry Page for more information on all volunteer opportunities!

WYD '08 Family Event

Saturday, June 21, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location TBD

Cardinal Sean will be with us at some point during this event. This gathering of all pilgrims, their families and any interested parishioners will be sponsored by the Archdiocese of Boston through the Office of New Evangelization of Young Adults and Youth.

Please contact Leslee Willitts at willitts@rcn.com if you would like to attend.

We are in the final push of our fundraising campaign, so here is how you can help put us to the top!

Sponsor a Pilgrim
If you would like to sponsor an individual member of the WYD 08 team or the entire group, it's easy! Simply fill out a sponsor sheet, located at the door of the church and return it to the team member or drop it in the Offertory basket or at the rectory with your donation. Make your check out to St. George Youth Ministry - WYD 08. And remember to include any prayer intentions you have for the team to bring to their Mass with Pope Benedict.

Shaw's Receipts

If you shop at Shaw's or Star Market, please save your receipts for the WYD 08 Team. Drop receipts into the boxes located at the church doors, the lower church and the rectory front porch. The Team will receive 1% of your total receipts to help them Leap To Sydney!

Mary Kay Product Bags

Buy your Mary Kay Satin Hands spa kit for just $20 and support World Youth Day! Kits are available for sale after masses.

CFF Program

Registration Forms Due by June 15

Catholic Faith Formation (CFF) packages for new families are available from the bulletin boards at the doors of the church or from inside the front door of the rectory.

Registration forms for current families have been mailed to all who did not register in person.  Please return all forms by Sunday, June 15 so we can prepare class lists, order books and supplies, and recruit catechists as needed.

And, as always, catechists are needed to teach classes for nearly all grade levels.

Please contact Paula Dolliver at pmtdol@aol.com for Grades K-5 and Leslee Willitts at willitts@rcn.com for Grades 6-12.
